I guess this is why I’m still in PT.
It was another really hot and humid day. It got to a high of 97, with it feeling like 105.
I stopped by Cedarville on the way home for a quick ride. One loop on the orange trail. About 7 miles.
Today would be a practice time trial. See how quick I could get one loop in and try to make the lungs work some.
I felt as good as the heat and humidity would let me.
The goal was to go ahead and bust butt early to see if I could push the lungs to there limit before the legs got tired. It didn’t work. Its the weirdest feeling, the legs are always giving out before the lungs.
I tried going with the low gears and high cadence.
Legs started hurting.
I tried the big ring and mashing.
Legs started hurting.
Although they feel fine, and I can go out for normal rides, I cant push them past a certain point, but they always recover quickly.
I got some opinions from other cyclists on my knee board and they’re going through the same thing so I feel good about that.
They just need more time, PT, and of course biking.
On the PT front, I started exercises to increase the hamstring strength.
For a refresher, they used part of my hamstring for the replacement graft that they put in the knee.
Damn those things are tight. If I try to touch my foot to my butt, instant hamstring cramp.
I think I’ll throw the clipless pedals back on this weekend and see how it feels.
I'd give ya distance and time on the ride but I started getting a front flat a mile from the end.

glad you are on the mend....
I am starting to feel better on the bike myself
my injury was a finger not a leg
but an injury just the same
now how do I keep from hurting myself again?
I've been reading up on your blog.
I was hoping back in Feb to give you some competition for the clyde at the sm100. Or at least make you think you had competition.
Next year. Watch out.
How to not hurt ourselves again?
Good question. I just hope this experience doesn't make me "play it safe". Before the only consequence I had to worry about was replacing a broken bike part. But now......
