Just 99 miles to go

Well at least I wasn't being a pussy.

The title refers to the Elizabeth Furnace ride on 2-15 when I decided to opt out of a partial 2nd loop because of a little knee pain I was having.

Had the follow up appt. today with my orthopedic doc. He looked at the MRI picts that I had done last week. I completely tore my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and did something (tore/ruptured) to 2 things in the knee that start with the letter "M". I sorta zoned out a little bit after he points to the MRI photos and says" See this spot here. Its where your ACL is supposed to be". After hearing the torn ACL part, I figured the rest was just details.

4 years of TaeKwondo and nothing. 6 months of MTBing and I need surgery. Aint that a bitch.

Originally I had hoped to put surgery off until the fall hoping I could still enter the Shenandoah MT. 100 race. But after researching this injury (aint the internet just great) I realized I wouldn't be able to put 100% into training, and I could put uneccessary wear and tear on the knee that I would live with for the rest of my life. This is my good knee too, I gotta take care of it.
Sorry Wayne, have you talked David into doing it yet? Maybe I'll go down and volunteer. I can cook french fries or oil your chains at the rest stops. (God, that sound pathetic. L-O-S-E-R)

I haven't got the surgery scheduled but am going to try for the middle of April. That might put be on road rides (or Cedarville) by mid-end June. I've been reading so many different things about recovery I'm not real sure what to expect. Until the surgery though I'm going to ride my ass off. (Is Wakefield rideable yet?)

I guess its good that I haven't bought a HR monitor yet, I'm gonna need the money for crutchess.BWAAAAAAAAAA

sorry to hear it... shoot me an e-mail or a PM on the MORE site if you've got any questions about the surgery/recovery... once you've had the surgery, just concentrate on recovery and rehab... think if it as personal training (insurance covered i hope)

the sm100 is a great event just to volunteer at... volunteering 2 years ago was what gave me the idea to try it... the vibe out at the campground in stokesville is unbeliveable... i don't know any other event to compare it to.

plus, by the you might be back on a mountain bike so you could ride a couple sections of the course. the course is full of classic rides that are worth it on their own...

Don't worry. Your the only person I actually know who's had this done. You'll get so sick of hearing from me you'll be afraid to check your email.

After I remembered that I could volunteer there, the decision was alot easier.
Thanks

Dude I'm sorry to hear about the injury. Just do what the doc says and it'll be all good before you know it.

Hey Tom, sorry to hear that. I hope you'll be back as soon as possible.

BTW, you really think mountain biking did that? That's scary.

And another thing: a bad knee is not an excuse to miss a party, so I hope we'll see you at the MORE party this Saturday, and at my party later next month :)

Thanks everybody,

To Denis, I'm positive it was MTBing. I remember exactly when at EF I did it. When you rip a ligament you know it. Its unlikely anybody else would do it.I was trying to stop an endo half way throught with the leg.

To Pete, Well there is the matter of my lawn which I'll be unable to attend to for a little while. I've made a schedule up for the "casuals" and will be emailing it shortly. There are also my "husbandly" duties. Any takers.

If my wife ever finds this blog my ass is grass. I hope yall find this funny as I did.

Damn! That sucks! :(

Maybe I'll keep you company volunteering at the SM100 - nothing to do with injuries - I'm just too damn lazy to work that hard! ;)

Hope it all works out OK - and soon.

Take care of yourself. SM100 will be there next year, and hopefully you'll be all healed and trained up for it!
