Just 99 miles to go

Quick thoughts.

Is seems as if alot of people are switching over to facebook for their online updates.
Someone sent me an invitation to it so I signed up.
Don't go looking for all the dirt on Tom there though. I haven't evan uploaded a pict or filled out anything but the barest of info.
It looks like a cool idea but its too much work, and whats the deal with all this "friends" crap.
I'll stick with blogger. Its easy.

So for us sm100 fans, the race is a week later than last year. One negative I discovered for us people planning on finishing in the dark, we lose 11 minutes of daylight in that one 7 day period.
Can you believe that?
11 minutes in 1 week?
The sunset for the race is 7:31 (9-6-09), a week earlier its 7:42 (8-30-09).
It may not seem like a big deal but after you've been riding for 11 hours ,riding in the dark really slows you down and makes things more dangerous.
I guess I better plan on finishing in daylight.
..........................
Don't laugh, it could happen.

Cold weather riding.
In an attempt at keeping the feet warm during a ride (or atleast from them going completely numb) I ditched the clipless pedals and tried going platforms with standard sneakers with heavy wool winter socks.
The verdict?
Works great.
I'm not sure weather it was the added insulation or the looseness of the shoes and the way you can vary foot position. This was the first time I've ridden under 30 degress and I didn't have to go thru the excruciating pain of warming the feet afterwards.
Now, getting used to the platforms again is a pain.
I almost went over the bars 3 times going over logs but I was getting used to it after an hour.

Still no registration up for the sm100.
Its got me a little worried.
I hope nothing happens to the race.

Tommy. I sent Chris Scott and email on facebook. He said it is still on for '09. Just waiting for a few changes with the registration. Good news.

That just means I need to finish the race 11 minutes faster. I think I can do that :)
