New light. Dinotte 200L.

This is a pict I stole off of the company's website of the light I just got.

Thats the whole setup, including the battery pack behind the light head.

I've got a 3 year old "Jet" 20w Halogen that I've been using. Its did a good job but its only supposed to have a 2 hour burn time on the high setting. I havent used it since last April and being 3 years old I doubt I'd get 2 hours now.

Cost of a new battery off of Jets site, over a hundred bucks.

I don't think so.

I came across a review for the Dinotte while browsing on MTBR.com. It caught my attention cause its a LED (those things fascinate me), the cost of $149.00, but the big selling point was it runs off of 4 AA batteries and has a 2 hour burn time. What really blew me away were the photos of the thing at night. It looked like a real light.

Although 2 hours isn't alot of time for a new light, carrying 4AA batteries for spares sounded sweet. Small , light, and they're readily avaliable. The way they keep making strides in the battery technology next year they might have batteries that will let me run for 2 1/2 hours.

I got to test it out last evening at Rosaryville. Pretty sweet. My only complaint is that its more of a spot than flood light.

What really impressed me was when I compared it next to my Jet.

First the LED light is white. The Jet is definately yellow although I never noticed it before. The LED throws the hot spot a little farther and things are clearer with the white light. The Jet did come out on time as far as beam spread but the light at its outter edges was so weak, I'm not sure how much I'll miss it. The final hit on the Jet though is the battery. The Jets battery is heavy and big. It'll fit inside a water bottle cage and I wouldn't need to worry about it falling out. The LED, like I said takes 4AA and can be strapped to your helment with the light. No more wire dangling from my helmet to my jersey pocket.

I'm going to play with using them both and see how it works just for the SM100. I'll need all the help I can get on those descents when I'm tired and its pitch black.

After seeing how well the LED works I've got no doubt that these are going to be replacing HID in the next year.

That's a good looking setup. LED lights fascinate me also. Where did you get it? Their web site only shows the older stuff. Good luck in the SM100!!!!

I ordered it from Geoman. Its $10 cheaper at the moment than from Dinotte. Although they havent updated the dinotte site, the 200l is the updated version at 200 lumens and 120 min runtime.
