Just 99 miles to go

I get to race.

No, I'm not talking about the Sm100 . I'm still doing it though.
I've got something a little closer to look forward to.
June 24 there is a 12 hour race on Quantico Marine base in Virginia.
I've been looking at it for the past few weeks trying to think of a way I could do it.
It sounds like a good beginner race, good for me as I've never officially raced.

I don't really know anybody too good to put a team togather. Well, actually the people I do know good aren't interested in racing. I sure as heck didn't want to do this thing solo.
I'm not nearly ready for that .

If you don't know what a 12 hour race is, the race starts at 8am and runs for 12 hours. The goal is to do as many laps as possible around a 10 mile course. If you do it solo, your going all day with no breaks. If going duo, you do a lap then your team mate does 1. If 3 person team, you go, then your 2 team mates.
This gets repeated for 12 hours.

A guy I have yet to meet, Brad, posts up to the MORE board that he's looking for team mates as his have backed out. He's done it beginner class before, isn't looking to win and just wants to have fun.
Perfect!
I email him fast, I want in.

So as it stands now I'm on a 3 person team with Brad and Eric. Brad I've never met, Eric I have ridden with but I can't remember the face. We're going to be entering the beginner class.
I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Although I've never entered a race before I have been riding for 3 years. I'm not fast and my technical skills could use help but I don't consider myself a beginner. If I was to race myself from 2 years ago, I would kill me.
Did you get that?

I'll see what happens. We'll probly come in last place in beginner class and I'll feel like a complete idiot for evan thinking about sport class.

So I'm going to try to get down to the base this weekend for a pre-ride. Probly try to get a few loops in. I've learned from Rosaryville, the better you know a place the faster you can go.

Just get a plan for the race before hand - i.e. figure out as a team if you want to take it easy and drink beer between laps or of you want to try to place. If you're going to try to place try to make all the rider transitions. Sounds easy but it happens all the time, one guy comes in and the next guy is nowhere to be found so he goes back out again or runs around trying to find the next guy. Also, after your lap relax drink and eat something and get off your feet so you're ready to go out again,.Good luck.
